Pendant of a green and purple dragon veins agate stone with an alloy, rhodium plated bail.Measures 2 1/8 inches tall, 1.5 inch wide.
This pendant is made of glass that is quench cracked (heated then cooled to make fractures), then color treated.
Please keep dry. Some crystals will dissolve if they get wet. A little sweat against the skin or a little rain (if you are out and about) will be fine, but please do not shower or swim with the pieces.What is Dragon Veins Agate?A cracked stone resembling veins.Sometimes it is glass and completely man-madeSometimes it is treated agate or chalcedonyDragon Vein Agate with bold black lines at regular spacing is usually glass, while less regular spacing and characteristics of an agate usually indicates dyed chalcedony.How is Dragon Veins Agate Made?It’s pretty interesting, actually. The glass ones are made by getting the right pattern into the glass before it’s molded into a final shape or set as a slab to be cut.When it comes to treated chalcedony, it is produced by bleaching (sometimes they don’t bleach it), quench-cracking, and then dyeing light-colored chalcedony. First the color is removed from white chalcedony by boiling it in muriatic acid. DO NOT DO THIS AT HOME! Sometimes the agate doesn’t completely bleach out and you can still see banding and coloration. Then the stone is quench cracked which means; heated up to a high temperature and dipped in water. This creates thermal shock (like when glass gets really hot and cracks) and causes internal fractures in the stone (the veins). Then the stone is soaked in the dye(s), absorbing colors in the fractures. Dragon veins is NOT a natural stone, though it can be created from an altered natural stone. If you see anyone advertising it as natural, they are either dishonest or ignorant.So while it is not natural, it is still aesthetically interesting and fun.Similar pendant
